If clutter has taken over your home, this 30-day declutter challenge checklist may be just what’s needed! By undertaking these simple tasks, this challenge will help get it under control while developing healthy decluttering habits.
Starting today, sort through all your paperwork or mail piles into four piles: Donate, Keep, Recycle and Trash.
Day 1
Keep a notebook on hand to record any organizing ideas that pop into your mind as you declutter your home, helping keep yourself on track with decluttering efforts. It will keep your brain fresh as well!
Start with your purse and wallet by discarding receipts and other clutter that has amassed.
Clean out your car! Kids often store extracurricular materials like baseball bats, bats, soccer balls and pom-poms in it!
Day 2

Day Two: Medicine Cabinet
Take everything out and organize what remains – this could also be used as an opportunity to organize pantry or cabinet drawers! Make sure your storage bins are labeled clearly, and set aside an area for items you plan to sell or donate.
Day 3
Today you’re going through your purse and wallet to throw out old receipts, scraps of paper and any unnecessary junk. Keep an eye out for memberships or subscriptions you no longer use and cancel them as soon as possible!
Beginners will find this decluttering method simple to understand and follow: every day remove one item from a space and put it into either your trash, recycling, or donation bin before returning items that belong there in an organized fashion.
Day 4
Decluttering can be a tedious and stressful task, so to make things easier be sure to donate any usable items and throw out trash. Have some clean boxes, paper towels and an all-purpose cleaner ready.
Today, tackle your junk drawers. Empty everything out and sort into recycling, trash and put-away bins; return any items belonging to other rooms back where they belong; keep decluttering momentum going by keeping a notebook with organization ideas handy for future projects and ideas for organization and improvement projects.
Day 5
Make yourself comfortable, put on some music, and dive into that junk drawer. Remove any unnecessary items that have accumulated over time while organizing what remains into its proper places.
This method is easy and straightforward. Simply sort all items into trash, recycle and donation piles – an ideal way to declutter without feeling overwhelmed!
Day 6
Day 6 involves cleaning out your refrigerator. Remove everything and store it in an ice chest before throwing anything that has expired away and wiping down shelves and drawers before placing everything back.
Day 7 focuses on your linen closet. Go through each item, tossing out any you no longer use and organizing what remains according to what makes sense for your space.
Today is an ideal opportunity to clear out your car of unnecessary items that have accumulated in its trunk.
Day 7
An effective decluttering method involves sorting items into four piles: Donate, Keep, Recycle and Trash. This approach to organizing clutter helps clear it away while giving back to others in need.
Finalize your task by gathering up everything that belongs in another room and placing it back where it belongs – giving yourself an accomplished feeling without leaving a space looking disorganized.
That concludes Day 7! Don’t forget to visit the Resource Library for additional organizing ideas.
Day 8
Your car can become another source of clutter. Extracurricular items often end up there when they don’t belong in the house, such as baseball bats and soccer balls.
Clear out everything you don’t use or need and put things back where they belong. If you’re feeling ambitious, consider creating two piles – one for donations and the other for items to sell – making a start. It will feel good to get rid of stuff!
Day 9
Decluttering is a time-consuming task that must be accomplished gradually over time. Our lives are too hectic for us to spend hours each day cleaning or decluttering a room or cabinet, yet decluttering should remain top of mind for everyone.
Use today as an opportunity to address an area in your home that is gathering dust. Maybe it’s the junk drawer or area storing extracurricular items (my trunk has tons!). Sort through all items and donate those that do not belong in your home.
